I don’t consider myself a cigar snob, but the truth is, I have friends who are. They constantly make fun of me for smoking machine mades, rather than their pretentious, hand made stogies. I personally smoke machine-mades for multiple reasons. They’re reliable, they draw great and burn consistent. That is what I look for in my smokes. I tried a Dutch Master Sport Double Claro for the first time the other day. I have had a lot of different flavored Dutch Master Cigars, but this was my first double claro. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the wrapper and overall it was a delicious cigar. Even though Dutch Master Cigars are available any where you go, out of all the cigars available today, I tend to gravitate towards them. They never let you down, including the Sport. So they can continue to buy over priced, unreliable cigars and I will stick to the ones that I love.
Dutch Master Cigars – My Favorite
June 30th, 2011Finding a Cheap Premium Cigar
April 29th, 2010My favorite cigar is by Bolivar cigars and I love them, but they can be quite expensive. I recently found out that a hand rolled cigar that is made with a blemish is considered “Cigar Seconds”. Some examples would be a slight discolored wrapper, or a veiny wrapper. The imperfections are typically unnoticeable to the consumer and the tobacco used for the cigar seconds is the same exact tobacco that is used under their brand names. These cigars even come in the exact same boxes and packaging, but cost half the price. I personally consider myself a light smoker. I smoke 2-3 on a weekly average. Because of that, I don’t like to spend a lot of money on cigars. I also like a strong cigar, like the Bolivar cigars, which I have purchased for years. These cigars are relatively inexpensive. I prefer a premium cigar, but since my wallet does not, I will sometimes switch to a machine made. But, now that I have found that premium cigar factories sell the imperfect cigars for less, I am definitely going to look into that. I have heard that since these factories don’t intentionally make these blemished cigars, that they are limited quantity, and may be hard to find. But I think it will be worth trying.
What has happened to the Jamaican Cigar?
April 2nd, 2010I have smoked Macanudo Cigars for years now, and read that they came from Jamaica. That appeared bizarre becauce I have not heard much about Jamaican tobacco. Reputedly, Cuban immigrants brought tobacco seeds to Jamaica, as they did every where else they moved to. But because of hurricanes, work issues and war, it’s been a difficult road for the Jamaican tobacco plant. Macanudo, which came from Jamaica is now handmade by General Cigar Company, found in Connecticut. They create quality, high end, premium cigars, including Macanudo. They use their own Connecticut shade wrappers, and various tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Africa for the filler and binder. These are my favorite cigars for lots of reasons, I love the sweet but spicy flavor. They are powerful, though not overwhelming. I am able to smoke once a day and be satisfied. There are just a few known Jamaican cigars around nowadays, and they appear tough to come by. If the others taste as well as a Macanudo, I may switch, except for now I’m sticking to what I like.
Saving For your Choice Smokes
March 17th, 2010Typically a quality premium stogie can be rather expensive. This may make it particullarly difficult to become a true backer for the average blue-collar employee. Regardless, the standing of being a true connoisseur of fine cigars shouldn’t be limited to the higher class. In brief nobody should have to miss out on a great premium cigar. Some prefer Backwoods Cigars, which are not handrolled, but have a great palatte. Fortunately , there are one or two suggestions to save you money when looking to buy fine cigars. Research and techinque in buying can save you plenty on your tops. If you play it intelligently, you can get round the high costs. Rather than purchasing one stogie each two or three weeks, start by finding the perfect stogie for you. Then, save up for two weeks, or maybe months if the need be. After you’ve got a considerable sum of money put back, contact your local smoke shop. If there is not one in your neighborhood, try surrounding areas. Each big city has 1 glorious smoke shop. When you have found it, talk to the owner, not the cashier. Tell the owner that you want one or two boxes or perhaps a case of a particular brand and that if they are going to give you a price break, you’ll make this, and all future purchases, at their shop. Unless the owner is the stingiest individual in the world, he or she will go for it. After you make your purchase, begin saving up again. You’ll usually realize that you save up enough to make your next purchase before you finish off your present stash. This may keep you ahead of the game and give you the ability to try new smokes. Save your Quarters, of course, this sounds daft initially. However, as it turns out, most people end up losing more than 30 bucks worth of change each month. Those that don’t lose it just chuck it to the side somewhere where it ends up getting lost. You are able to afford 3 decent smokes in just change. Make a conscious effort to put the change away in a particular can or jar until the end of the week. You could be surprised how much you walk off with. Shop Around, all too often we see that one gorgeous stogie. You know the one, the peerlessly wrapped, oily slick, dark chocolate Robusto. It is so beautiful that we just have to purchase it on sight. This is a major no-no. Take note of the smoke, the brand and the format. Then, return home and do a Net search and see what you come up with. Check all the discount internet sites. You are nearly sure to find the one you are looking for at a much less cost.
Miami Suites Cigars and Alcohol
February 17th, 2010The instant effect of a cigar on your tastes is strong. If you intend to eat or drink during or straight after smoking a cigar, your decisions must be made conscientiously to avoid a mismatch. The smoky, cedary spray of miami suites cigars can linger on your palate for hours, and it’ll continue to contribute to whatever you are eating or drinking. Paired properly with the right food and beverage, say a dark barley wine or a peaty single malt scotch, this match could be made in heaven. The peaty-rich nose and the finish of completely ripe apricots offered by a barley wine, together with a cigar’s potent contribution of a creamy smooth taste with hints of cedar and spice, could be a wonderful mix.
The base line is that you can match cigars with lager, wine, food or spirits – all you have got to know is what mixes you do and do not enjoy, which is simply data gained through experimentation. It goes without saying that your own taste receptors are the final arbiter of what’s right on your table.
Only a Couple Days to the Cigarette Exile
December 29th, 2009Well, St. Louis has accepted a smoking ban for all restaurants and bars, with only a small number allowances. I’m so sick and tired of my human rights being eliminated, I’m fed up. I can’t understand the reason non-smokers have such a sharp judgement on what we smokers are doing. I comprehend that smoking is damaging, but I made a conscience selection when I began smoking, observant of the fact it was harmful. Just because non-smokers want me to stop, won’t mean that it’s going to happen. Smoking in bars has been a favor, but most restaurants include a chosen smoking room. If you do not want to breathe in the smoke, don’t sit in the smoking room, you are not unwilling made to sit in smoking. And as far as the employees of these restaurants that comment they are affected by second hand smoke, I don’t believe it. I worked in the service industry for over 10 years, and I know that almost all of thepeople I worked with were smokers. Doing business with the public, always, compels you to inhale. And, I have never heard one non-smoking co-worker ever protest about smoking while at work in the smoking room. Putting a smoking ban in restaurants and bars, will only save me money, considering I will not go out after the January 1st.
All I have to have for my Present: Smokes!
December 18th, 2009I have made a decision this holiday to beg for trustworthy Christmas Gifts that my wife can pick up easily for me. My selection, as always, is my favorite cigar from www-premium-cigars.com. My wife doesn’t even have to leave our house, she can go online (I have all my favorites sites saved) and enter the order there. As far as anything else, she can head over to the local retailer and pick out a gift. She says to me every holiday that I am totally baffling person to buy for. But we have been inseperable for about 15 years! And if she doesn’t realize the things I like by now, I quit. I always mention every year, “I want cigars”, I puff on 1 or 2 a day, and that adds up. I bought a humidor for holding my cigars, “what’s that for?” my wife askes. Well my beloved, it’s to keep my stogies crisp. So, if you get me some for christmas I can hold them in the humidor for a couple months and remove one when I am wishing to enjoy one. Although I have to say, I was blessed last year, my wife bought me a lighter that was ingraved with my initials. The year before, she gave me a fishing pole, without thinking I said I wanted to go fishing again someday. Well, I went fishing only once after that, but guess what, I still enjoy 1-2 cigars a day. In the end what do I want for the holiday this year? I want Stogies, and anything else would just be an secondary delight.

Cigars: Facts for the novice stogie smoker
November 18th, 2009The typical method of categorizing cigars is by the method in which they are made. Cigars are either rolled by hand, or manufactured by machines. The novice smoker may be tempted to start by trying those machine made brands sold in Drug Stores, such as Garcia Vega. However, the Novice Smoker should consider spending a few more pennies and moving up to hand rolled cigars, which are sold online or at a local tobacconist.
Heavy smokers Vs Connoisseurs
TypicalIndividual cigar smokers have their own unique tastes, and have their own individual budget. Those who like smoking many cigars per day may need an “everyday” cigar that is less expensive. Therefore, the taste and cost of machine made cigars can be very attractive to some smokers. However, to the aspiring or experienced connoisseurs, the ones who enjoy an occasional cigar as a special treat, the hand rolled cigar is worth every dime.
